The international program of the University of Maine organizes the Culture Fest every fall. It brings out many of the international graduate students, wearing their traditional colorful clothes from their home country, showing exotic dances and (my favorite part) cooking fabulous flavorful dishes. Since some of my favorite people (and excellent cooks!) were participating up this year, I made sure to make it to the Rec Center early since by the afternoon most of the food is typical gone. Usually, the grad students look ‘americanized’ wearing similar clothes of jeans and sweatshirts in class. It is great to see the traditional garb worn with culture pride on such days, with all the diversity international culture has to offer. And, I had some fantastic Indian and Sri Lanka food plus a Saudi Arabian rice pudding.
